Forgiven

And so I tell you, every kind of sin and slander can be forgiven, but blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. (Matthew 12:31)

True forgiveness comes through Jesus. I think many times we don't really grasp the significance of God's forgiveness. Jesus said that every kind of sin can be forgiven, yet we look at things we've done or are doing and think "There is no way God can forgive me for that." This statement isn't accurate. It's not what Jesus said. According to Jesus blasphemy agianst the Spirit is the only unforgiveable sin. Blasphemy is the act of insulting, mocking, or showing contempt or lack of reverence for a deity, sacred objects, or something considered inviolable. It can manifest as speech, writing, or actions. 

What about our past do we think is unforgiveable? We all have a past that isn't perfect. Some worse than others. I know what my past looks like, and let me say there are something that I thought were unforgiveable. But then I met Jesus and I began to understand forgiveness. The things of my past have been wiped clean. God remembers them no more. I remember them, but God doesn't. God can and will forgive your past as well. However, this forgiveness comes only through our relationship with Jesus. Whatever it is be assured it is forgiveable, unless it is blasphemy against the Spirit. 

When we think something is unforgiveable we are placing ourselves ahead of Jesus. We are refuting what Jesus said. Remember Jesus said every sin can be forgiven, except one. If you have not blasphemed against the Spirit your sins are forgiveable. It doesn't matter where you've been, what you've said, or what you've done. It's all forgiveable. Jesus died a gruesome death on a cross so that our sins can be forgiven. Not certain sins, but all sin. So whatever is in your past that you view as unforgiveable, give it to Jesus and accept that it has been forgiven. Let go and step into the freedom that comes through knowing we are completely forgiven.
