Right

The word right has several different meanings. However, when looking at our anxiety, the definition we want to guide us is correctness. Correctness: Free from error, true, or conforming to facts. How we see things matters. The problem is we don’t always see things correctly. We look at things through our worldly lens instead of a heavenly lens. The earthly lens is tainted by our imperfect minds. Many times our thoughts aren't based on facts, thus they are not free from error. Because we are prone to faulty thoughts and opinions, we must align ourselves with what is right in the eyes of God. We should turn our attention to God for what is right.

“There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end leads to death” (Proverbs 21:3). The way that appears to be right is walking through life doing our own thing. “Just do it.” If we look around us at all the anxiety people have, we’ll notice that there is a problem with correctness. Flawed thinking. A thinking that says, I’m going to do what I want. We see people who think their ways are correct and if you disagree, you’re wrong. However, if we are focusing on inaccurate thoughts we’ll increase our risk of depression. We can’t just accept what we believe. We must take every thought captive and examine it based on what is right in the eyes of God. Focusing on what is right is focusing on the life of Jesus. Instead of focusing on what people around us think, say, and do, we need to focus on the goodness of God. God’s ways are perfect.

Instead of focusing on all the wrongs in society we turn our focus to Jesus. Jesus, God in earthly form, has provided us with what is right. Jesus didn’t condemn those He came in contact with. Yes, He pointed out the error of their ways, but He did so in a loving manner. If we focus more on the person and less on whether they are correct or not, we might just decrease some of our anxiety. Focusing on what is right will challenge us to look at our own thoughts and beliefs. This is good, because we will be able to determine where our beliefs are faulty. So in seeking what is right, we will be in a better place, thus reducing the anxiety we experience. Jesus is where our focus needs to be.
