A Little Faith

Faith always begins small. We don’t go all in right from the beginning. There will be reservations, especially in something new. But what about faith in something or someone we can’t see? The invisible? The things we can’t really understand and wrap our minds around. There’s a part of us that wants to believe that battles with the thought of how can I put trust in something with so little faith. However, every faith moment begins small. It takes time for faith to grow bigger. Just like a seed planted in soil, our small faith gets planted, watered, and cared for, and before we know it we have a small plant. As we continue to nurture our small plant, it grows into a bigger plant. Faith is like this, a seed gets planted, it gets watered, and it grows.

‘“He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”’ (Matthew 17:20). These are the words of Jesus. He fully understood that our faith will begin very small. The size of a mustard seed. Do you know how big a mustard seed is? A mustard seed is only 1/32 to 3/32 inches in size. That is roughly the size of a pin head, and is comparable to a coarse grain of sand. Jesus says this much faith is enough. It’s enough to move mountains. So we shouldn’t discount the results of having just a little faith. I believe Jesus is telling us that He realizes our faith in Him begins small, but that’s enough. That’s all Jesus asks for in the beginning. Just have a little faith in Me. Just give Me a chance to show you what a little faith can do. Jesus promises that our mustard seed faith will not disappoint us.

What mountains in your life would you like moved? Is it an addiction? A relational issue? Financial issue? Or any other number of mountains we face in this life? It only takes a very small size of faith to move them. September 16, 1993, I took my mustard size faith and trust Jesus with it. That was the day I started my journey through life with Jesus. That was my first day of sobriety and I have been sober ever since. My faith the size of a mustard seed moved the mountain of addiction. Through the years my faith has grown and continues to grow. As I walk with Jesus, I learn more about Him and the power He has to move mountains. With your mustard seed faith in Jesus, you too can move the mountains in your life. Never discount the power of such small faith. Jesus will take your mustard seed faith and turn it into a growing plant.
