An Invitation

In Step 3 we come to a place of making an important decision about our life and recovery. It’s a decision that impacts more than the here and now. It impacts eternity. We have come to accept that we are powerless and our lives are unmanageable. We have stepped out in faith and believed there is a Power greater than ourselves that can restore us to sanity. A Power that can change the trajectory of our life. A Power so great that we can be pulled from the pit of addiction. A chain breaking Power that sets the prisoners free. No matter what chains hold you prisoner, a Power greater than yourself can set you free. That Power is Jesus. Revelation 3:20 offers an invitation to a Power far greater than any other we can tap into. “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with Me.” (Revelation 3:20). The invitation to walk out of our prison has been given. We have been invited to commune with the greatest Power there is.

It’s decision time! Do we accept Jesus’ invitation? Or are we willing to go it alone? September 16, 1993, I made my decision. I heard the knock and I opened the door and found Jesus standing there with outstretched arms. I have been free from alcohol since. Not free from struggles, but I have been free from the chains that held me captive for double digit years. I have been redeemed from my past life. The apostle Paul writes to the Corinthian believers, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” (2 Corinthians 5:17). The power of Jesus can transform our lives. With Him all things are made new. Sometimes I tell my wife about some of the things I did during my drinking days. There are times she says that she can’t see me doing those things. You see, I’m not who I used to be. When I turned my life over to Jesus, I became a new person. That is being restored to sanity. I started on a different path, and I was alone. 

We all have the opportunity to turn our lives over to the greatest Power to exist. Jesus stands at the door of our heart, and He doors to get our attention. He wants us to open the door. He’s hungry. He’s hungry for a relationship with everyone. He wants to be our Savior, our Transformer. The power of Jesus has the ability to completely change our lives. Do you want true freedom from your addiction? John 8:32 says, “Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” Jesus can set you free. What is your addiction? Is it drugs, alcohol, shopping, sex, relationships, serving others? You can gain your freedom by opening the door of your heart and allowing Jesus to enter. Tap into the greatest power ever. The transforming power of Jesus.
